After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.
Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

I LOVE, love, LOVE this book!!! Love it so much.
I have heard great things about this series so I decided it was time to go ahead and read it.
And I am so glad that I did. Because I have found a new ALL-TIME FAVORITE book! And I imagine a new favorite series!

The story is beautifully written. I was hooked from the very beginning. I couldn't wait to read more and find out what was happening. I read the book in almost an entire day. I read the first chapter and reluctantly put the book down so I could go to sleep. But the following day I grabbed it and devoured the entire book. It was definitely hard to put down.

Sarah J. Maas does an AMAZING job creating amazing characters and an elaborate world.

Celaena is an assassin that has been captured and working in the labor mines for the past year. She has the chance to leave the mines, if she agrees to fight in a competition as the Champion for the Crown Prince. Celaena has to find a way to win the competition and figure out who is killing the contestants before they come after her.

I love that not only is this an Epic Fantasy read, but there is a little bit of mystery surrounding the story as well. I was fascinated by trying to figure out what was happening and who was killing the contestants.

The characters are all so wonderfully well-written and well-developed!
It was so easy for me to become invested in these characters and their lives.

Celaena is amazing. She is so tough and strong. She has gone through a lot. I love that she is smart and love books. I like that she comes off as being tough but she isn't just that, she is also nice and caring.

Dorian and Chaol are also great. I really enjoyed the developing relationships between them and Celaena. Even though there is a love triangle. (Which didn't really bother me, because even though I ship one of them with Celaena more, I actually really like both guys!) I also like their friendship.

Nehemia is very interesting. I really enjoyed the developing friendship between her and Celaena. I am looking forward to getting to know more about her in the next book.

I really am looking forward to reading more about this awesome world and these fantastic characters.

My Recommendation:
Read this book now! If you haven't read this book yet and love high fantasy books that feature a strong female lead, then you shouldn't wait to read this one. It is easily one of my favorite books of all time. And I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series!
