In this heart-wrenching story of love and loss, a teen copes with the reality of a genetic mutation that could change everything.
Erin Bailey's life changes forever the day her mom is diagnosed with breast cancer. It's always just been Erin and Mom, so living without her is not an option. Life takes another turn when the cancer is linked to a rare genetic mutation, and Erin must grapple with the decision of whether or not to have her own DNA tested. Her only outlets are flying lessons, where looking to the horizon calms her deepest fears, and her new friend Ashley, a girl she met in an online support group. But when a flash decision has Erin flying away to find her new friend, she embarks on a journey from the depths of despair to new love and a better understanding of the true meaning of beauty. This thought-provoking story brings readers to the emotional brink and back again, as they experience Erin's fear, her frustration, and ultimately . . . her freedom. ***I received an e-galley of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

Positively Beautiful  was a pretty emotional read for me. The ending did make me cry. A lot.

Honestly, I didn't read the whole description before requesting to read and review this book. I LOVE the cover, it is gorgeous and I read the first few sentences and decided that this was a book I wanted to read.

Overall, I liked reading the story. There were parts that I liked more than others, and I wasn't too invested in the characters at first. But as the story continued, I found myself caring more about Erin and everything that was happening in her life.

Erin finds out that her mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Not only has her life changed because her mom has cancer, but Erin also finds out that there is a chance she has the same genetic mutation that increases the chance of cancer. Erin struggles to accept that her mother is sick and that she is supposed to wait several years to get tested herself. She finds support online, but still trying to figure out what she should do next. Fear and uncertainty surround her and causes her to make decisions that hurt others. In this story, Erin, has to accept the future, whatever that future may now be.

I did find this story to be touching and moving. For me the story was pretty easy to read, though there were some parts that I found slower than others. The parts of the story where Erin is learning to fly were a little boring for me. I kept wanting to skim those parts and get back to the other sections of the story. I understand why this is in the book and how it makes her feel. As well as the fact that it relates to her father. But for me I just didn't connect with these sections in the story. I enjoyed and cared more about the other things that were happening.

There were some twists that I was pretty surprised about.

I did like the characters. I do feel that Erin developed a lot through out the story. She had a lot going on and her life changed when she found out about her mother and dealing with the genetic mutation. That is a lot for anyone to have to handle. I really like her friendship with Trina. They are cute best friends and this friendship felt very realistic to me. I really enjoyed this part of the story. I also like how close Erin is with her mom.

There wasn't a whole lot of romance in this story (which didn't surprise me, since it is more of a story about the mother-daughter relationship and cancer changing her life). But the romance that was in the story, I did enjoy.

My Recommendation:
I did enjoy reading the story. I didn't fall in love with it, but it was still a good story. Pretty emotional for me. I smiled and I cried. I enjoyed the friendships and the relationships the most. I also really like the character development for the main character. I recommend reading this book if you enjoy heartfelt stories where the main character's life and future changes.
