I think A Thousand Nights is a beautifully written story. It is a retelling of One Thousand and One Nights. Honestly, I am not too familiar with the original story, since I haven't read it. But that didn't keep me from enjoying and liking it. A Thousand Nights is an intriguing and unique story and I am glad I was able to read it.
Lo-Melkhiin has been marrying girls from all around the palace. Hundreds of girls that don't survive after their wedding night. So when she finds out he is coming to their village for his next bride, she will do whatever it takes to save her sister. She will become his next bride, knowing it will result in her death. But at least her sister is safe and alive. On their wedding night she tells Lo-Melkhiin a story, then goes to sleep thinking it was the end. But she wakes the next morning to see the sun and live another day. So night after night, she tells him more tales and she continues to live. Her powers grow with each tale. Will she be able to stop the monster?
I like that the story was a little darker then I thought is was going to be. The beginning really pulled me into the story. I do think that A Thousand Nights is a slow-paced story. I think there is a lot of character development and growth for the main character. There were a few times when I was reading, I felt like I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. But overall, I read it really slowly. I didn't really mind the slow pace, I enjoyed the beautiful and detailed descriptions.
I think the plot was fascinating. The plot and the main character kept me interested in finishing the story. I really liked the magic part of the story as well.
I really liked the main character. She is so strong and at times fearless. She cares deeply for her family which shows how loyal and selfless she is. She cares about others and doing whatever she can to protect and save them. For me, I thought it was very easy to care about her and like her character. I love her relationship with her sister. And I enjoyed the interactions she had with Lo-Melkhiin's mother. I also found her interactions with Lo-Melkhiin interesting and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen.

My Recommendation:
I enjoyed reading A Thousand Nights. It is my first retelling of One Thousand and One Nights. I think it is fascinating with a wonderful plot. I also really liked the main character. She is strong and brave. I did read this one very slowly, but I found the writing beautiful and full of detailed descriptions. I also couldn't wait to find out what would happen to the main character.
If you enjoy retellings that have a unique twist with beautiful writing, I think you should give this one a chance. It isn't action packed, but there is still a lot that happens and has an interesting plot. I am glad I read it.
