Sixteen-year-old heiress and paparazzi darling Liddi Jantzen hates the spotlight. But as the only daughter in the most powerful tech family in the galaxy, it's hard to escape it. So when a group of men show up at her house uninvited, she assumes it's just the usual media-grubs. That is, until shots are fired.Liddi escapes, only to be pulled into an interplanetary conspiracy more complex than she ever could have imagined. Her older brothers have been caught as well, trapped in the conduits between the planets. And when their captor implants a device in Liddi's vocal cords to monitor her speech, their lives are in her hands: One word and her brothers are dead.Desperate to save her family from a desolate future, Liddi travels to another world, where she meets the one person who might have the skills to help her bring her eight brothers home-a handsome dignitary named Tiav. But without her voice, Liddi must use every bit of her strength and wit to convince Tiav that her mission is true. With the tenuous balance of the planets deeply intertwined with her brothers' survival, just how much is Liddi willing to sacrifice to bring them back?Haunting and mesmerizing, this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans strings the heart of the classic with a stunning, imaginative world as a star-crossed family fights for survival in this companion to Stitching Snow.

***I received an e-galley of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

At the beginning of the year I read Stitching Snow and enjoyed it, so when I found out that R.C. Lewis had another Fairy Tale Retelling book coming out this year I was really excited and knew it was one that I needed to read!

I liked and enjoyed reading Spinning Starlight. I found it interesting and entertaining. I haven't read The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen, but I did look up and read a quick summary so I would have an idea of what the story is about and what happens.

I think Spinning Starlight is an imaginative retelling. I think that R.C. Lewis is an excellent storyteller. She created a fascinating world and I really like how I could see some similarities to The Wild Swans but at the same time it something different.

The Jantzen family is full of smart technological minds. In fact, Jantzen Technology Innovations is the most powerful technology company and it was run by Liddi's father. Until a tragic accident claimed the lives of both the Jantzen parents. Leaving Liddi and her eight brothers alone. And when Liddi is old enough she is to take over the company and run it with the help of her brothers. But before that is able to happen, Liddi gets pulled into a complicated situation. One that leaves her with an implant in her vocal chords to keep her from telling anyone what is happening, otherwise her brothers will die. She is able to escape to another world, in the hopes to find a way to save her brothers from being trapped.

I love the Science Fiction (and Science) component of the story. Other planets, portals, aliens, and more! So intriguing. Plus, there are some exciting parts of the story, and some reveals that really surprised me.

I liked the characters. Liddi is smart and strong. But at the same time she is full of self-doubt and doesn't know what all she is capable of. I love her loyalty and love for her brothers. She will sacrifice and do anything to save them. I also think that she has a lot of character growth through the story, and I really enjoyed it.
I did like Tiav's character. He was interesting and I like how helpful and kind he is. He is a good person. I did like the interactions between Liddi and Tiav, as well as the relationship. They were cute.

For the most part, I liked the flashbacks at the end of the chapters. It helped me get a better understanding of her family, especially her brothers. But there were a couple of times where the flashback didn't feel needed.

My Recommendation:

I am glad I read Spinning Starlight. I enjoyed it and found it entertaining. I love the world that the author created and the wonderful storytelling. I recommend giving it a read! And I am really looking forward to reading whatever R.C. Lewis writes next!
