I have been excited for Into the Dim since I first heard about it last year. The story sounded amazing and interesting and I couldn't wait to have the chance to read it. I haven't read Outlander yet, so I can't comment on whether it is "Outlander for teens".
I didn't fall in love with the story and I wasn't blown away. But I did enjoy reading it and I found it interesting enough to probably read the next book.
Overall, I think that Into the Dim is full of interesting historical detail and enjoyable.
Some parts of the story moved slower than others, so I found myself reading the story slowly. When I was reading, it wasn't difficult to want to continue on and read what happens next. But when I would put the story down, it was sometimes a couple of days before I picked it back up again.
I also found some of the story to be easily predictable. In fact, I only found a couple things surprising. The predictability didn't really bother me that much, I did keep reading to see what else was going to happen and whether my thoughts were correct.
My favorite part of the story was the historical detail. As well as, the entire time they were in the past. I really found this part of the story to be fascinating and enchanting. I enjoyed the build up to finding Hope's mother and finding out how they would handle the situation once they did. I also found the time traveling and the concept of how it works (in this story) interesting and creative.
I liked the characters. Hope is an interesting main character since she has an unique ability. She is smart. I think she is determined and will do anything to find her mother. I really liked her interactions with Phoebe and Collum. I also enjoyed Phoebe and Collum. I think that Phoebe is sweet and energetic. Collum is loyal, determined, and a leader. I think all three are characters I would like to find out more about.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Into the Dim. I think it is an interesting debut novel and I will probably give the next book a try. I really liked the time traveling and historical parts of the story. I liked the characters and I am looking forward to finding out more about them. I did find some parts of the story to be a bit slow and predictable, but I am glad I read it.
