Seventeen-year-old Anouk has finally caught the break she’s been looking for—she's been selected out of hundreds of other candidates to fly to France and help with the excavation of a vast, underground palace buried a hundred feet below the suburbs of Paris. Built in the 1780's to hide an aristocratic family and a mad duke during the French Revolution, the palace has lain hidden and forgotten ever since. Anouk, along with several other gifted teenagers, will be the first to set foot in it in over two centuries.
Or so she thought.
But nothing is as it seems, and the teens soon find themselves embroiled in a game far more sinister, and dangerous, than they could possibly have imagined. An evil spanning centuries is waiting for them in the depths. . .
A genre-bending thriller from Stefan Bachmann for fans of The Maze Runner and Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods.
You cannot escape the palace.
You cannot guess its secrets.

***I received an e-galley of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review***

There were a few times while reading A Drop of Night, I wondered "What is going on?" A Drop of Night is one of those stories that will keep you on your toes and make you wonder what is going to happen next. There were only a couple small things that I was able to guess while reading, but everything else completely surprised me.

A Drop of Night is a very interesting, sometimes crazy and weird, thrilling story. There is a lot of action and mystery to keep the reader engaged. Overall, I enjoyed reading A Drop of Night. It definitely surprised me and made my heart race.

There are a lot of mysteries and secrets in A Drop of Night, so I have decided to write a vague Things I Liked vs. Things I Didn't List Review.

Things I Liked:
  • The Mystery: I honestly didn't figure out most of the mystery for this story. I only guessed a couple small details correctly. So the ending really surprised me!
  • Unique Story: I can honestly say I haven't read anything quite like this story! There were several times I wondered what was going on. I also think the story was a bit crazy and weird at times (in a good way)!
  • The Historical Parts. I really liked that there were some historical parts to this story. I found them very interesting.
  • Entertaining: There is a lot of stuff that happens in this story. I think there was almost something constantly happening once the characters reach the palace. A lot of action and creepy situations. I think that this is more of a plot-driven story.

Things I Didn't Really Like:

  • I guess the only thing that I didn't like that much was the main character, Anouk. I'm not really sure why, but I just didn't really click with her. I did want to like her and I didn't hate her. Overall, she just wasn't a character that I really liked or loved.

 My Recommendation:

Overall, I enjoyed reading A Drop of Night. The story had an interesting plot and mystery. There were twists and surprises. There were parts that made my heart race and some that really made me wonder what was going on. If you enjoy horror and mystery type stories, I recommend giving A Drop of Night a read!
