Last year I enjoyed reading Ash & Bramble, so I knew that I wanted to read the next book to see what happens next. I do want to point out that usually when I am done reading the first book in a new series and decide that I know I want to read the next one, I do not read the synopsis for the following books. I pretty much always do this. I think it is because I already know that I want to read the book, so I don't need to know more going into the next story. Which means I was surprised to find out that Rose & Thorn takes place 50 years after the events of Ash & Bramble, with new characters that I wasn't already familiar with. Honestly, it did make me a little sad to not have Pin and Shoe as the main characters anymore. But that didn't keep me from really enjoying this continuation/companion retelling of Sleeping Beauty!
I really enjoyed reading Rose & Thorn and found this story to be just as unique, entertaining and interesting as the first book. Maybe even more so. I really liked coming back to this magical, dark, grim world that the author has created. Not only did I enjoy the world, I ended up loving the characters in this story.
I love Rose. She is full of love and hope. She is sweet and caring. And she is also very determined and will do what needs to be done to escape the fate that her story has for her. I really enjoyed her interactions and relationships with Griff and Quirk. The banter was entertaining and made me smile.
I also really enjoyed the twists and turns that I didn't see coming. This story kept me entertained the entire time.
If you read and enjoyed Ash & Bramble, I definitely recommend giving this story a read also. I really enjoyed reading Rose & Thorn. I really like the world and the characters. The story is entertaining and has some surprising twists and turns. I think it is an unique and interesting retelling of Sleeping Beauty.
