Author: Elly Blake

Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a fireblood who must hide her powers of heat and flame from the cruel frostblood ruling class that wants to destroy all that are left of her kind. So when her mother is killed for protecting her and rebel frostbloods demand her help to kill their rampaging king, she agrees. But Ruby's powers are unpredictable, and she's not sure she's willing to let the rebels and an infuriating (yet irresistible) young man called Arcus use her as their weapon.
All she wants is revenge, but before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to take part in the king's tournaments that pit fireblood prisoners against frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her and from the icy young man she has come to love.
Fast-paced and compelling, Frostblood is the first in a page-turning new young adult three-book series about a world where flame and ice are mortal enemies—but together create a power that could change everything.

***I received an e-galley of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

Oh. My. Goodness. This book! Let me start by saying that I have been looking forward to reading Frostblood since I first heard about it. It is one of my most anticipated 2017 debuts. So I was super excited to be approved to read an advanced copy. I picked it up one night thinking I would read a chapter or two before bed. The next thing I knew I was 30% into the story and had to force myself to put the book down because I had to get some sleep.

Frostblood will instantly draw the reader in and make you want to do nothing but keep reading. I was instantly entranced by this story and was fully invested in finding out what was going to happen. I think Frostblood is a magically irresistible story full of excitement, intrigue, self-discovery, trust, and a slow-burn romance.  I seriously loved everything about it. The writing is wonderful and the story is very entertaining.

I think this story has great pacing and world-building. I really like the backstory and found it to be interesting. Overall, some of the reveals and twists were not that shocking. There were a couple that surprised me a little. But that didn't stop me from really enjoying this book.

I love the characters very much. Ruby is a great main character. She is brave and spunky but also unsure about herself and her power. I think she has a lot of growth throughout the story. I love the relationship development between her and the other characters. Especially Arcus and the brother and sister monks. And the romance. I LOVED the romance. Slow-burn with passion and chemistry.

My Recommendation:

Frostblood captivated my attention from the very beginning. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about how much I wished I was. I enjoyed the story, world-building, and the characters very much. I can easily say that I think Frostblood is already one going to be one of my favorite reads of 2017. I loved it. I am already super excited and looking forward to the next book! I cannot wait to find out what happens next! I highly recommend reading this one!
